ATTENDANCE / ABSENCES

A parent/guardian must call in an absence on the absent line (673-5221). See the Attendance Regulations Policy 3515 for more information.

Truancy

  • Truancy is an unexcused absence as determined by the School Principal / designee.
  • Ten half days of unexcused absence (which is equal to 5 full days of school) during a school year will be considered habitual truancy.

Students who are truant will be referred to the Assistant Principal for disciplinary action and the truant officer will be contacted regarding the truancy.

EXCESSIVE ABSENCES

When absences begin to accumulate and have an adverse effect on the student’s educational performance, then a meeting may be requested between the parent, administrator, and school resource officer.

MAKE-UP WORK POLICY

Parents may request school work if the student is absent for several days due to illness etc.  For each day the student is absent, he / she will receive a day to complete the make-up work.   Please call the school in the morning to request make-up work if your child is absent from school for more than 1 day.

TARDINESS

lateStudents arriving at school after 7:35 must report to the main office.  Students should have an excuse note signed by a parent or guardian.  Accumulated unexcused tardies will count towards student absences. (See the district policy 3515 Attendance, Absenteeism and Truancy.)

You may be dismissed only to your parent or guardian unless permission to leave with another person has been given to the office.  You must sign out when leaving and sign in upon your return.

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL DUE TO VACATION

airplane

Although we recognize the desire of families to vacation together we must judge this in context of our academic program and State Law.  Absence from school for a family vacation is not recognized as a legal absence under State statues.  A student who is absent for a family vacation must make up all work missed in order to remain in good standing. It is the responsibility of the student and his/her parents or guardians to make appropriate arrangements prior to the planned absence as follows.   Parents can request make up work from the school, however, missed school work will be provided following the vacation.  It will be up to the teacher’s discretion to provide work ahead of time if he /she is able.

The office needs to be notified in writing of the dates the absences will occur.
