SCHOOL COUNSELING SERVICES

Student services

The School Counselors are available to assist students in a variety of ways.  Students who experience difficulty at school, especially with conflicts or issues with peers should seek the assistance of the guidance counselors to work through those problems in a pro-active way.   Resolving issues with peers in a positive manner should be the first step in addressing an issue and will assist students in learning conflict resolution.

School Counselors will also address challenges faced by today’s youth, intervene in crisis situations and explore career education.  Should any student have a concern with which a counselor could assist, the student may schedule an appointment with Student Services.

SOCIAL WORKER

A school social worker is available to families and students who need additional supports and resources.

HEALTH SERVICES
nurse

The Milford Middle School has a full-time nurse on duty.  The nurse provides first aid for students who may be injured or ill. Parents should notify the nurse if any changes of telephone numbers or addresses occur.  It is also helpful for parents to inform the nurse of any special medical problems that may affect the child during school.

The nurse will call home to notify parent/guardian that a child is ill at school.  Some guidelines are listed below, however, please refer to the Parent Handbook for more    specific information.

HEALTH SCREENINGS

eye exam

Health Screenings are recommended by the State of New Hampshire. Hearing, vision, blood pressure, Height weight, scoliosis and head check for lice is done in the 6th and 8th grades.

Adolescent scoliosis (curvature of the spine) is not easily recognized until the adolescent growth spurt occurs. This growth spurt usually begins around the age of 10. The screening program will detect any spinal abnormalities. Should an abnormality be observed, parents will be notified. In the health interest of your child, early diagnosis is the key to preventing further complications

MEDICATIONS

Students are not allowed to carry their own medications with them at school.  If a student feels ill, he / she should see the school nurse.  Parents should provide the school nurse with any prescription medications needed.  Epi-pens and inhalers can be carried by a student only if the prescription for the medication and permission form have been provided to the school nurse.
